Departing directly from the port, embark on an unforgettable exploration of the section of the Great Wall closest to Tianjin Cruise Port: Huangyaguan. With the flexibility to set your own pace, you'll be accompanied by a private guide and driver who will ensure a personalized and enriching experience.
When your cruise ship arrives, walk through the arrival hall towards the exit. There, you'll find your guide waiting for you, holding a sign with your name. Then, drive about 2.5 hours to the Huangyaguan Great Wall (177km). Huangyaguan Great Wall, means the “The Yellow Cliff Pass”, as it's aptly named, derives its title from the distinctive yellowish rocks that grace its surroundings. Originating built 1400 years ago during the Northern Qi Dynasty, then underwent significant enhancements during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), under the guidance of the strategic genius, General Qi Jiguang.
This 3km section of Huangyaguan Great Wall integrates with Huangya Fortress, a water pass, watchtowers, frontier cities, Bagua Castle, and military facilities, maintaining its fully intact defense system. The historic Phoenix Fortress, a beacon tower in the north, communicated emergency messages in ancient times. Inspired by the ancient philosophy of the Book of Changes, Bagua Castle's layout could confound potential invaders, ensuring they'd get lost and face attacks. The restoration in the 1980s led to the establishment of the Great Wall Museum and Forest of Stales (about 2-3 hours). Afterward, your guide will suggest you a restaurant for lunch (at your own expense) before driving back to the Tianjin Cruise Port.
