Itinerary
Day 1Private Tour to Huangyaguan Great Wall and Eastern Qing Emperor’s Tombs
7:30 Your friendly guide will meet you up at your hotel lobby. It takes about 3 hours drive to Huangyaguan Great Wall from the Hotel in Beijing, or 2.5 hours drive from the hotel in Tianjin.
10:00- 12:00 Enjoying your Great Wall hiking. Huangyaguan Great Wall, means the “The Yellow Cliff Pass”, as it's aptly named, derives its title from the distinctive yellowish rocks that grace its surroundings. Originating built 1400 years ago during the Northern Qi Dynasty, then underwent significant enhancements during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), under the guidance of the strategic genius, General Qi Jiguang.
This 3km section of Huangyaguan Great Wall integrates with Huangya Fortress, a water pass, watchtowers, frontier cities, Bagua Castle, and military facilities, maintaining its fully intact defense system. The historic Phoenix Fortress, a beacon tower in the north, communicated emergency messages in ancient times. Inspired by the ancient philosophy of the Book of Changes, Bagua Castle's layout could confound potential invaders, ensuring they'd get lost and face attacks. The restoration in the 1980s led to the establishment of the Great Wall Museum and Forest of Steles (about 2 hours). Afterwards you will have lunch at a local restaurant (at your own expenses) before head to the Eastern Qing Emperor’s Tomb (about 45mins’ drive).
14:30-16:30 Visit the Eastern Qing Emperor’s Tomb. From the Xiaoling Tomb of Emperor Shunzhi, built in 1661, to the Dingdongling Tomb of Emperor Cixi in 1908, the building of the East Qing Emperor’s Tomb mausoleum lasted 247 years. It covers 2580 square kilometers and accommodates the tombs of 161 imperial members, including five emperors, 15 empresses, and 136 imperial concubines. Discover the two most famous and beautiful underground palaces, the tombs of Emperor Qianlong and Empress Dowager Cixi, both of the most powerful rulers in the Qing Dynasty (about 2 hours).
19:00 Back to the hotel and ended a wonderful day.
