In ancient times, people admired and worshiped the mysterious Heaven and Emperor, all regarding themselves as sons of Heaven. They built all sorts of alters to worship Heaven while displaying dignity and bearing. Besides the modern China Century Altar, there are six other ancient alters across Beijing City: the Temple of Heaven, the Temple of Earth, the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of the Moon, the Imperial Divine Temple, and the Xiannong Temple. Among all the alters, the Temple of Heaven ranks the NO.1 in the world for its size and area. The Temple of Heaven is also a model of the ancient fine arts of China, integrating ancient philosophy, history, mathematics, mechanics, aesthetics, and ecology.
